Privacy Policy

Last updated February 19, 2026

The short version

Marine Conditions does not collect personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no tracking that ties back to you as an individual. This site uses privacy-friendly analytics to understand how many people are visiting — nothing more.

Analytics

This site uses Umami, a privacy-focused open-source analytics platform. Umami collects only aggregate, anonymous data:

  • Page views and which pages were visited
  • Referring site (e.g. Google, direct)
  • Browser type and operating system (in aggregate)
  • Country-level location (not city or precise location)
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)

Umami does not:

  • Set cookies
  • Track you across sites
  • collect personally identifiable information
  • Fingerprint your device

It is compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR. The analytics instance is self-hosted at analytics.ronniejohnsonphotography.com — no data is sent to third-party analytics companies.

No third-party trackers or ads

This site does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking scripts. There are no ads. Your data is never sold or shared with anyone.

This site uses Next.js font optimization, which downloads fonts at build time and self-hosts them. No runtime requests are made to Google Fonts or any font CDN.

Weather data

The weather observations displayed on this site come from Environment and Climate Change Canada. They are publicly available government data. No personal information is involved in fetching or displaying these observations.

Server-side data storage

Weather observations from ECCC are stored in a Canadian cloud database (AWS DynamoDB, ca-central-1 region) for use in the site's history charts. This data consists entirely of meteorological measurements — it contains no personal information and is not linked to any individual visitor. Stored observations are automatically deleted after 90 days.

Local storage

This site stores your dark mode preference in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to anyone else.
